Cash Advances for Newly Planted Winter Cereal Crops Available October 1st

October 2, 2012CCGA Press Release

Winnipeg, MB  --  Farmers planting winter cereals can now apply for a 2013-14 cash advance on their newly seeded winter wheat or fall rye.  The Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) began accepting applications for the 2013-14 Advance Payments Program for Winter Cereals on October 1, 2012.

“A farm’s fall cash flow needs are often high,” says Rick White, General Manager of CCGA. “A cash advance provides inexpensive cash flow, doesn’t tie up farm assets as collateral and provides farmers with the added flexibility of timing their grain sales when it’s most advantageous.”

“The Advance Payments Program for winter cereals is a 24-month program that kicks off October 1, 2012 and wraps up September 30, 2014,” says Janet Morgan, Manager of Program Administration at CCGA.  “Farmers can apply for an advance on winter wheat or fall rye right from their telephone by calling our toll-free customer service centre at 1-866-745-2256.”  They can also apply online or download an application form at www.ccga.ca.  Printed applications will soon be available at local grain elevators.

CCGA began issuing seeded advances on winter wheat and fall rye in October 2011.  “Under the Advance Payments Program, farmers are eligible for up to $400,000 in a cash advance; the first $100,000 is interest-free and the remaining $300,000 is available at prime-flat,” says Morgan.

CCGA has been an administrator of the Advance Payments Program for nearly 30 years and recently expanded its eligible commodities to include wheat, durum and barley. The 2013-14 cash advance program administered by CCGA is made available to Canadian farmers through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Advance Payments Program.
