• Renewable diesel and co-processed fuels are chemically indistinguishable from fossil fuels and function the same way in any diesel-powered farm equipment in any season. For these reasons they are referred to as drop-in fuels.
  
  For biodiesel, an older generation of biofuels, every original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of diesel vehicles approves blends of up to 5% (B5) in their engines, and nearly 80% of OEMs approve blends up to 20% (B20) in some or all of their diesel vehicles. Winter month blend rates range from 2-5%. Long-term tests on older equipment demonstrate no issues when using low-level biodiesel blends. Owners should consult their operating manuals and keep in mind that biodiesel acts as a cleaning agent, so check gaskets, hoses and filters when first using biodiesel, as built-up engine sediment may dislodge.
  
  Major farm implement manufacturers support the use of biofuels in their equipment as long as the fuel meets industry quality standards. See your equipment operating manual or the manufacturer's website for detailed information on the specific engine you may have.

With its high oil content and low levels of saturated fat, canola provides a healthy cooking oil, high protein animal feed, and a high quality feedstock for biofuel production. Canadian canola farmers continue to improve their productive capacity growing nearly 21.8 million tonnes in 2025, averaging 20 million tonnes per year. With ample supply, farmers can successfully supply food, feed, and fuel markets in Canada and elsewhere.
