Launch of Consultation on Canada Grain Act Review

January 12, 2021CCGA Statement

Winnipeg, MB — Earlier today the Honourable Marie‑Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri‑Food, launched a consultation as part of the long‑awaited Canada Grain Act review. The consultation will be held online until April 30, 2021.

Canola farmers welcomed the news. It has been over 40 years since there has been a substantive overhaul of the Canada Grain Act. During this time, the grains sector has evolved, and changes are necessary to uphold the grain quality assurance system and to better align Canadian Grain Commission services with the current and future needs of farmers and the grain sector.

Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) looks forward to engaging on this important topic and to bringing canola farmer issues forward. The review provides an opportunity to define the gold standard for grain quality assurance, to enhance producer protections, and to create a responsive legislative framework that enhances competitiveness of Canada's grains sector.

Canadian Canola Growers Association represents canola farmers on national and international issues, policies and programs that impact farm profitability and has been an administrator of the Government of Canada's Advance Payments Program since 1984.
