Winnipeg, Manitoba -- A five minute stop could save your life! The Prostate Cancer Centre and Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) are teaming up to increase awareness and early detection of prostate cancer for men in rural communities. In Canada, one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, however when caught early the disease is 95% treatable. From June 17 through 19, the Prostate Cancer Centre’s Man Van™ team will be at Farm Progress Show in Regina to operate their mobile testing clinic and talk about the importance of early detection.
“CCGA believes strongly in supporting the health and well-being of farming communities, and that’s why we are partnering with the Man Van™,” says Brett Halstead, President of CCGA. “As a farmer, I know first-hand how farm-men can put our businesses, our families and our communities ahead of our own health. By bringing the Man Van™ to Farm Progress Show we are creating opportunities for men to learn more about this illness and take proactive steps toward early detection.”
Prostate health is not always top-of-mind and it can be very difficult for men to fit regular doctor visits into their schedules. The Man Van™ is a mobile PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood testing clinic that brings the lab and information directly to the men it aims to help. PSA is a protein produced by the prostate and released in small amounts to the bloodstream. The amount of PSA in the bloodstream can often predict a man’s risk of prostate cancer.
“We invite all men age 40 and over to visit the Man Van™ during Canada’s Farm Progress Show to GET CHECKED,” says Halstead. “The blood test is free, it only takes five minutes, and it could save your life!” You will find the Man Van™ outside in Lot B, on the west side of the show grounds.
The Prostate Cancer Centre is a non-profit organization established in 1999 that focuses on the early detection and treatment of prostate cancer and prostate-related disease. More information on the Prostate Cancer Centre’s Combine for Cures™ and Man Van™ programs can be found at
