It’s important that your farm business needs and community issues are considered when decisions are being made that affect agriculture and rural communities. The month of May is your time to be counted when you complete the Census of Agriculture.
Census data is used by policymakers, businesses, individuals, academics, and farm organizations, including CCGA, to study, bring issues forward, and advocate for Canadian farmers.
Every five years, Statistics Canada collects data on a wide range of topics. Analysis of this data identifies trends, issues, opportunities, and challenges being faced by agricultural communities across the country.
Since 1921, the Census of Agriculture has provided a portrait of Canadian agriculture. Details about land use, crops, livestock, agricultural labour, machinery and equipment, land management practices, and farm management come together to create detailed and accurate snapshots of agriculture operations and their communities.
You can expect to receive a letter from Statistics Canada in early May outlining how to complete your Census of Agriculture questionnaire.
We recognize this is a busy time of year for you, but numbers count and your participation is important. The more comprehensive and accurate the data received, the greater the benefit to Canadian farmers including yourself. When it's your turn, complete the Census of Agriculture and be counted this May!
