Who can apply?

All types of farms can apply. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and the age of majority in the province where you farm. Corporations, cooperatives, and partnerships are also eligible.

You do not need to own land or equipment to apply for a cash advance, as long as you own the commodities on which you are applying.

When can I apply?

Farmers can apply for an advance at any time throughout the year. A new program year begins every April.

  • A spring crop or honey advance must be secured by crop insurance or AgriStability. Farmers receive 60% of an advance when an application is approved and the remaining 40% after seeding is complete.
  • Post-harvest crop advances are secured by the unsold inventories, and can be applied for at any time of the year.
  • Livestock advances can be applied for anytime during the program year, as long as the stock applied on is already born. The advance must be secured by AgriStability.
