A lot of time and energy goes into planning, growing and harvesting your canola crop. You manage the impacts of weather, disease and pests, while balancing your finances. But when you deliver your canola, do you fully understand what happens at your elevator or processor?
Sampling, grading and dockage should not be a mystery. Your assigned grade and dockage percentage directly affects the price you receive and the profitability of your canola. Canadian Canola Growers Association has launched a new resource for farmers,
KnowYourGrade.ca.
KnowYourGrade.ca was developed to help farmers maximize the value of their canola and have confidence in the grading outcome. A good understanding of the process provides better confidence in what to expect at the elevator or processor, as well as what producer protections and responsibilities govern your canola delivery.
The website explains what farmers need to know when taking samples on farm, when observing the cleaning and dockage process, and when looking at the different grading factors for canola. You'll find easy-to-understand videos on dockage basics and the dockage assessment process, as well as a useful resource library. A rights and responsibilities section outlines producer protections available to you, including how to proceed if you don't agree with the assessment results.
