Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) is encouraged that announcements contained in the Government’s Spring Economic Update, including an intention to amend the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Act and the Pest Control Products Act could result in improved access to innovations that drive productivity and improve competitiveness for Canada’s canola farmers.
Evolving the Pesticide Regulatory Directorate’s approach to incorporate broader economic considerations, while maintaining its strong foundation in science and safety, can enhance accessibility to innovation on the farm while supporting farm productivity and competitiveness. The Association appreciates ongoing work by Minister of Health, Marjorie Michel, and Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Heath MacDonald, to bring agriculture into the regulatory modernization discussion.
CCGA views this as a positive first step toward modernizing Canada’s regulatory environment, advancing agricultural innovation, and helping to keep input costs manageable for farmers. The Association looks forward to the introduction of the relevant legislation, participating actively in consultations, and continuing to collaborate with government to ensure farmers have timely access to the tools they need to remain competitive.
