As a farmer, is it important to you that your business needs and community issues are considered when decisions are being made that affect agriculture and rural communities? The month of May 2021 is your time to be counted, when you complete the Census of Agriculture.
Census data is used by policymakers, businesses, individuals, academics, and farm organizations (including CCGA) to study, bring issues forward, and advocate for Canadian farmers. For example, data collected in 2016 has been used to communicate farmers' sustainability story, to highlight the role of family farms in Canada and globally, and to support Canadian agriculture exports.
Every five years, Statistics Canada collects data on a wide range of topics and analysis of this data identifies trends, issues, opportunities, and challenges being faced by agricultural communities across the country.
Details about land use, crops, livestock, agricultural labour, machinery and equipment, land management practices, and farm management come together to create detailed and accurate snapshots of large and small agriculture operations and their communities.
You can expect to receive a letter from Statistics Canada in early May outlining how to complete your Census form.
We recognize this is a busy time of year for you, but numbers count and your participation is important. The more comprehensive and accurate the data received, the greater the benefit to Canadian farmers including yourself. When it's your turn, complete the Census of Agriculture and be counted!
